Vogue pattern company calls this a cover up but in my opinion cover ups are for the beach and this is definitely not for the beach, mind you I used Ankara fabric and not the suggested fabric for the style.
I cut the large size and it was a bit too big for me but I also wanted a fitted look therefore I took it in at the sides and added a bust dart.
Since I added the bust dart, the armhole size was smaller so I had to add pleats to the sleeve cap to take in the extra fabric on my sleeve. I didn't know how it would look but it turned out nicely.
Those were the only adjustments I made to this pattern. I did serge the seams with matching thread because the wrong side and seams will show so make sure if you are making this style that your choice of fabric shows just as good on the wrong side as it does on the face of your fabric.
The sides drapes really nice kind of like bustling and the pleat details in the back gives a nice shape especially for me because I have what I call a “sink in my back.”
I finish the edges with self piping and sewed thin straps to use as closures for the front.
The only thing I would change the next time I make this is I will move the pleats a bit more to the center back. I think the way it is now on the pattern it’s a bit too close to the side seam and the detail hides under my arm.
Will I make this again?, definitely as long as I find the fabric that adds that wow to the style.
Till next time, show off your style
